There are stories that inspire and touch us so much that they touch us to our very core and push us to redefine ourselves as an event and a foundation.

Few things are as satisfying for those of us on the 24h team as seeing a movement come alive and grow, year after year, to support children’s causes.

Mathilde and her family

The Vieux Bambous is a case in point. Marc-André Larose, a family man who felt helpless in the face of his daughter Mathilde’s cancer diagnosis, decided to recruit friends and relatives to form a team for the 24h.

Putting shoulder to the wheel to battle the disease seemed the only way he could deal with this adversity.

Now cancer-free, Mathilde has finished high school and is doing well. Five years after the Vieux Bambous was created, the tradition not only continues, but flourishes. Two junior teams have sprouted from the inspiring initiative of their parents: the sons and daughters of the Ski Morin Heights team.

Because stories of hope, love and solidarity are why teams keep coming back year after year, and why donors keep giving, and why we are inspired as an organization to pursue our mission, we invite you to read the story of Mathilde Larose and the Vieux Bambous.
