In remission, but…

Remission: it was a lengthy battle and a long wait, but at last, the doctor is telling a family that their child is in remission. Indescribable relief!

The worst is over, yes. But being in remission does not, unfortunately, mean that you’ll never
need to go back to the hospital again. Many follow-up exams will be necessary because – nobody likes to say it – there is always a chance of a recurrence. Many parents describe this reality as a sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. They stay positive, they get back to almost-normal family life, and they forge ahead until the complete cure is announced. Also, aftereffects may arise, resulting in a need for rehabilitation – for physiotherapy or occupational therapy required to strengthen little muscles and enable a child to move as freely as before.

Then, most of all, is the dream. The dream that no other family will ever need to walk this road, so we continue the fight for others and so that researchers can at last find the solution to this nightmare.

Your donations to Fondation Charles-Bruneau make it all happen: centres and care units at the cutting edge of technology, where every detail is meant to simplify life for families; physio and occupational therapy rooms; and, of course, ground-breaking medical research.

Our dream of a cure is ambitious, but with you by our sides, we allow ourselves to dream.
